About Alexa Singer-Telles, LMFT

Alexa has practiced the healing arts for more than thirty years.  She received an M.S. in Health Education at San Francisco State University. She began her career as a Health Educator teaching nutrition, human sexuality, communication, and healthy living in the community college system.  She studied dance, from jazz to improvisation, and then trained in movement therapy and authentic movement.  She has taught dance and creative movement for many years.  She has studied and taught creative dreamwork processes, was part of the Bay Area Dreamworkers Network, and has been part of a personal dreamwork group for over fifteen years.  She attended Pacifica Graduate Institute to study depth psychology and received an M.A. in Counseling Psychology.  She has been in private practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist in Redding since 2000.  She has been working in consultation with Paul Aikin, Ph.D., studying psychodynamic relational psychotherapy since 2007.  In 2008, she trained and became a facilitator in the process of SoulCollage, a creative arts practice and process.  She has been active as a co-leader in a mindfulness based meditation group for more than twenty years.  She is currently training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and increasing her focus on couple work.

As you can see from my bio, I love exploring the inner realms of the psyche as well as living fully in the body.  My therapeutic work is inspired by the many years I have studied the human experience and its expression, both conscious and unconscious.  I offer you my ability to be present with an open mind and heart to the challenges or difficulties you face in your life.

I often find poetry to be an inspiration and a reflection of our desire for growth, aliveness, and change.  My intention for how therapy can provide a process for you living your best life is expressed in this poem.

I will not live in fear...

I will not die an unlived life./ I will not live in fear/ Of falling or catching fire./ I choose to inhabit my days,/ To allow my living to open me,/ To make me less afraid,/ More accessible;/ To loosen my heart/ Until it becomes a wing,/ A torch, a promise./ I choose to risk my significance,/ To live so that which came to me as seed/ Goes to the next as blossom,/ And that which came to me as blossom,/ Goes on as fruit.   Dawna Markova
